Christmas Cookie Recipe
My brother-in-law sent me this great recipe for Christmas cookies. I've been cooking long enough that I can scan a recipe and tell right away whether it's going to be any good -- this one looks like a winner.
It's unusual too - you can bet you'll be the only one at the office Christmas party with these little babies. I don't know whether to credit the originality of the recipe to the fact that he's a Naval officer or to the fact that this is the third time the poor guy has been stationed with the Marines. Whatever it is, I'm just thankful:
Ingredients:
1 cup of water
lemon juice
1 tsp baking soda
4 large eggs
1 cup of sugar
1 cup nuts
1 tsp salt
2 cups of dried fruit
1 cup of brown sugar
1 bottle Jack Daniels Whiskey
1. Sample the Jack Daniels to check quality.
2. Take a large bowl, check the Jack Daniels again to be sure it is of the highest quality, pour one level cup and drink.
3. Turn on the electric mixer.
4. Beat one cup of butter in a large fluffy bowl.
5. Add one teaspoon of sugar...
6. Beat again. At this point it's best to make sure the Jack Daniels is still OK. Try another cup, just in case.
7. Turn off the mixerer thingy.
8. Break 2 leggs and add to the bowl and chuck in the cup of dried fruit.
9. Pick the frigging fruit off floor.
10. Mix on the turner. If the fried druit gets stuck in the beaterers, just pry it loose with a drewscriver. Sample the Jack Daniels to check for tonsisticity.
11. Next, sift two cups of salt, or something. Who giveshz a sheet. Check the Jack Daniels.
12. Now shift the lemon juice and strain your nuts. Add one table. Add a spoon of sugar, or somefink. Whatever you can find.
13. Greash the oven. Turn the cake tin 360 degrees and try not to fall over. Don't forget to beat off the turner.
14. Finally, throw the bowl through the window, finish the Dack Janiels and make sure to put the stove in the dishwasher.

I wonder how that would turn out if I substituted a good tequila?
Recipes are just starting points for me.

The mark of any good cook is the ability to improvise, Pile. Salute!

Cass, you were bragging on the unit's eggnog. You just might have to post his recipe for that somewhere.

I will find it later and put it up. It's awfully good (at least I think it is). Some people like it better if you make it the night before and let it season - my mother-in-law does.

Quoting Arnold Schwarzenegger, from the movie "Raw Deal":
'You should not drink and bake.'
My wife consciously broke that rule the other night when she had a Kaluha and cream while making cookies.

And so, may evil beware and may good dress warmly and eat lots of fresh vegetables.

Don, I ALWAYS drink while baking, and I am reputed to be a rather good baker, so there must be some merit in the practice.
A happy cook is a good cook.
