What a freak (via Ed Lasky):
John Mearsheimer says that the pro-Israel lobby is so powerful that he and co-author Stephen Walt would never have been able to place their report in a American-based scientific publication.Most scholars, policymakers and journalists know that "the whole subject of the Israel lobby and American foreign policy is a third-rail issue," he said. "Publishers understand that if they publish a piece like ours it would cause them all sorts of problems."
In their paper, "The Israel Lobby and U.S. Foreign Policy," the two professors accuse "the lobby" of "policing academia," intimidating scholars and stifling dissent on campuses, mainly through accusing critics of being antisemitic.
Here's my favorite part:
Asked if the study may have been initially rejected by the American publisher because of poor research, Mearsheimer said that the "evidence in the piece is just the tip of the iceberg," and that the study's observations are supported by a large body of evidence. He did concede, however, that none of the evidence represents original documentation or is derived from independent interviews. All the additional supporting material — just like the references footnoted in the paper — is of a secondary nature: citations of books and newspaper articles, Mearsheimer said.Mearsheimer dismissed accusations and insinuations that people or entities hostile to Israel encouraged him and Walt to write the paper or that they did so to appease Arab donors to their universities. "We did this independently," he said.
Of course you did, Mr. Mearsheimer. Now if only those damned Joooos would leave you alone:

The 21 countries of the Arab League with ties to 1.2 billion Muslims world-wide are nowhere present as active political agents. There is no mention of the Arab rejection of the United Nations's partition of Palestine in 1948; no 58-year Arab League boycott of Israel and companies trading with Israel; no Arab attacks of 1948, 1967 and 1973; no Arab-Soviet resolution at the U.N. defining Zionism as racism; no monetary and strategic support for Arab terrorism against Jews and Israel; and no Hamas dedication to destroying the Jewish state. The authors do not ask why Arab aggression and Muslim "rage against Israel" should have morphed into a war against the U.S. and the West. Israel's existence elicits Arab and Muslim hostility, hence in their view Israel is to blame for Arab and Muslim carnage.
You know things are getting bad when they send their women to beat you up, Mr. Mearsheimer. If I were you, I'd call it a day.

Wait...you mean the Israelis aren't responsible for the Bird Flu?
And what's the idea of bringing up all those facts, anyhow? It's getting pretty bad when an author just can't sling crap around anymore and have it accepted just because, "I read it somewhere."

I read a few articles on that. I love the way their whole case is built on circular logic.
Paraphrase: "The fact that they try to give proof that there is no Jewish Lobby is proof of a Jewish Lobby."
That's such an idiotic statement that it's almost impossible to refute without writing a book.
It has so much wrong with it that one doesn't know where to begin. Yet that seems to be the foundation of their reasoning.

Just wait. Last week the Russians were accusing the US of having developed the bird flu as a biological weapon. It is only a matter of time before the theory comes together: the US was accused by the Russians of developing avian flu as a weapon; the US is controlled by Israel; therefore, Israel is behind the avian flu. QED.
