Answer:"In lieu of flowers, the family requests balloons"

Question: When exactly in this article did Carrie absolutely lose it?

Goodspeed, Chief, and enjoy those balloons.

"So he passed over, and all the trumpets sounded for him on the other side."
John Bunyon: Pilgram's Progress
(Death of Valiant for Truth), 1678.

Salute.

There are two kinds of men for whom I will do anything a moral man might do, on demand: Sergeants Major and Chief Petty Officers. Generals may scrape and plead; I will consider their requests, as a civilian is free to do. But for a man of that stripe -- anything.

That is a beautiful balloon. Well might a balloon be beautiful: for, like life, balloons are dangerous.

I looked at a lot of balloons, Grim.

But that one seemed like one that might make a little boy smile. I kept coming back to it, though it wasn't really what I had in mind.

I have got to learn to change the thingy before I hit post.

Minor snerk 'cause this is an honor post.

You're not a princess...you're a Queen.
And damnit, you made me cry this morning.

Balloons for a child, even a child Chief, are poignant and sweet.
All of those balloons this afternoon rose up to heaven, where he surely is, and he's seen them and he's smiling.
Rest easy on that.
And rest easy, small Chief...

I'm sorry.

I just got to thinking about how we get so preoccupied with these big wars in the newspapers.

And all the time there are these tiny warrriors, fighting battles we will, for the most part, never know about.

What a little mouse. I wish I could gather him up in my arms. Who will remember him?

You are right Carrie. God is smiling on him :)

Bless You, Cass, for sharing this story with us. And may God bless and keep "Chief" close to his heart.

Cass,
Who will remember him?
We will, thanks to you.
We'll snuggle and cuddle the memory of him.
We'll think of him when we see balloons.
We'll remember his brave little heart.
That right there is a pretty good thing.
To be that young and leave that kind of legacy?
Pfft...most of us won't even get clost to that.
Little guy did well.
