Amazing...
I must have the only dog on earth who will dance for brussel sprouts.

Hehe! My pug probably would too, he loves green veggies. Particularly romaine lettuce! Crazy pups.

Our cat who recently died at the age of 19-1/2(!) loved, and I mean LOVED, grilled shrimp with garlic.

OK, that was unexpected.
I keep laughing when I think of it.

Cass, how about a pic?
Posted by: unkawill at November 20, 2006 10:39 PM
I wish I hadn't been so tired last night, or I would have gotten the camera out.
He was so funny - he was literally dancing from foot to foot with impatience after the first one, even though he was trying to sit still and be good :) I don't even know what made me give him one.
I never give him people food because I don't want him begging while I'm eating my dinner, but this was hilarious. My husband had to make me stop, but even he was laughing.

Dogs and cats love greens. My Peke-Pom loved watermelon and grapes. She lived to be 19 years old. I would love to see a vid of him begging.

Sausage will not eat grapes. He is suspicious of the skin. He'll only eat them if I peel them, and I refuse to peel grapes for a dog.
Posted by: Cassandra at November 21, 2006 08:15 AM
Apparently, someone must have agreed to peel grapes for him at least once.
He doesn't happen to be a Brussels griffon, does he?

I had a dog that loved ice cream cones. He would lick all the ice cream off the top until he got to the cone and then daintily take that cone and eat it in little bites -- just like a person would.
And Cass, I, too, have always restricted amount and type of "people" food that my dogs get for more than just the begging factor. (Which I absolutely cannot stand.) It also gives them horrendously nuclear gas. NOT exactly the nicest way to be awakened in the middle of the night -- for people who like to breathe, anyway.

That"s not nice.

When I was a child, we had a terrier mix that LOVED frozen vegetables, particularly peas. If we spilled any on the floor, his furry little snout would move along the floor like a vacuum. We never saw him chew, but in his wake the peas, et al, would be gone.
I also had a cat that just ADORED cantelope and genuine fruit popsicles. And of course my mother's cat can hear the ziploc bag with cheese in it from the moment it's pulled out of the fridge...

When I was a kid, my mom would cook frozen green beans, which I hate (I will eat the canned ones - yes, they do taste different). I couldn't leave the table until my vegetables were gone. I'd just wait until I was the last one at the table and sneak the green beans to our dachshund. My parents didn't know he would eat vegetables...

Sausage like green beens too. And I don't much care for frozen green beans. Why is that?
I love fresh ones though. And I'll eat canned blue lake. But lima beans are the spawn of Satan.

Thank you for hating lima beans.
Only after seeing a National Geographic special about Australia--with the obligatory Aboriginal merrily *crunch*-ing "Wichity Grubs"--did I find something to describe my reaction to them.
I loathe lima beans. Really I do.

As a child, my eldest sister once held the hated lima bean in her cheek all night, unharmed. Thanks for the memory. :)

When I was a little girl, I didn't much like peas either.
My Mom moved our china cabinet to vaccuum under it once and found that I had been flicking peas underneath it for some time from underneath the dining room table.
She was not amused...

My family was never a pea-eating family, so I escaped that particular veggie. I don't recall lima beans, really, but I do recall despising butter beans...

I'm really not sure how/why, but veggies were never an issue in my family. Maybe because we grew up with gardens, we were exposed to veggies in their yummiest form--fresh from the garden and/or cooked to exactly the right crispness/tenderness (as a result, I HATE most canned vegetables).
The only veggie-related aversion I have is to anything pickled. Blech, blech!
Posted by: FbL at November 22, 2006 10:28 AM
Fresh from the garden or frozen. Canned is only acceptable for certain legumes and a couple of vegetables like artichoke hearts and crowns and tomatoes.
And even then it is questionable.
But dogs and cats will eat produce. They crave it and it helps them digest the rather awful canned/dried food they have to eat. My cats are outside critters, but they benefit from some fresh stuff every day.

You wanna talk about "ICK".
Boiled okra, with it's Slimey/gelatinous texture makes me GAG.
Posted by: unkawill at November 22, 2006 04:11 PM
Yeah, but I love hot picked okra. Except I couldn't find it at our local grocery store for my relish tray and that made me mad. But I did get all sorts of neat olives so that sort of made up for it.
Posted by: Cassandra at November 22, 2006 05:51 PM
My dog likes pickled okra too, but he doesn't eat olives. Too salty.
