What We Owe

IMG_3431.0.jpg

Lance Corporal Joseph M. Grady

I spake of most disastrous chances,
Of moving accidents by flood and field,
Of hair-breadth 'scapes i' the imminent deadly breach,
Of being taken by the insolent foe

When I did speak of some distressful stroke
That my youth suffer'd. My story being done,
She gave me for my pains a world of sighs;
She swore, in faith, 'twas strange, 'twas passing strange;
'Twas pitiful, 'twas wondrous pitiful.
She wish'd she had not heard it, yet she wish'd
That heaven had made her such a man; she thank'd me,
And bade me, if I had a friend that loved her,
I should but teach him how to tell my story,
And that would woo her.

I have always found WO Fay's work to be deeply moving whether it is of Marines in the field or Marines at Walter Reed or Bethesda.

He just seems to capture their essence, grit and all.

I almost want to crash the Museum opening just on the off chance that I might get to meet him.

Exactly.

I wasn't happy with the way I'd edited that passage.

I kept thinking of that calendar, earlier, and how after looking at those young guys just left me kind of..., I don't know, they're nice looking but there was nothing.

And then after getting your email I happened to go over to Michael's site and I happened on this and it just took my breath away.

Now there is a man who could make a woman weak in the knees. Or at least, someone like this woman. Whatever "it" is, he still has it.

Some poor girl had better watch out.

Ladies, your're making me blush!

It's your own fault, sir. Turnabout is fair play :)

I suppose Mr. Fay is an OK arteest--- for a poor (like his subjects) uneducated schlep.

Yes...maybe we should start a scholarship fund so he can attend a real school like Yale where they learn to create serious works like Serrano's Piss Christ.

Now *that* is Art. But who expects some yayhoo in the military to appreciate the finer things in life? It's so depressing being around the proles.

Michael,
Around this joint, there's always somebody blushing..

Ohh look..
It's Francois and Cheeky...

[pushing Carrie out of the way]

Oh for Pete's sake... don't you people know who I am?

Don't tell him THAT - he'll never come back.

:D
You cheeky monkey...
