Hollywood's Inconvenient Truth
Sometimes, searchers for Truthiness, jackbooted oppression, and the Amerikkkan Way don't find exactly what they're looking for:
When I was looking at my SiteMeter statistics last night, I just had to laugh a little about this one. I'm sure they were looking for something to justify an opinion that the United States has been turned into a police state since George W. was elected, and they get something stating that, quite clearly, that is not the case...
Don't you just hate it when that happens? Why, it's enough to make a person lose faith in the value of planning. But then so often in life the little Truths we like to think of as self-evident... aren't:
Bernard Gordon died over the weekend. He was one of those Hollywood Communists of the Forties blacklisted in the Fifties, and it defined him till the end.... In later years, the screenwriter led the protests against the very belated Oscar awarded to Elia Kazan in 1999. As Gordon wrote of Kazan in The Los Angeles Times, “He helped to support an oppressive regime that did incalculable damage to America and abroad.”Interesting choice of word: "regime". And what about the regime you supported?
That’s what all those Hollywood and Broadway Communists did. They were the polite front of an ideology that led to mass murder, and they expected Kazan to honour their gentleman’s agreement. In those polite house parties Gregory Peck goes to [in Gentleman's Agreement], it’s rather boorish and tedious to become too exercised about anti-semitism. And likewise, at gatherings in the arts, it’s boorish and tedious to become too exercised about Communism – no matter how many faraway, foreign, unglamorous people it kills. Elia Kazan was on the right side of history. His enemies line up with the apologists for thugs and tyrants. Whose reputation would you bet on in the long run?
Now, of course, thanks to Hollywood and hard working folks like Bill Clinton, we know America has a long, long way to go until it becomes as Enlightened and Progressyve as countries like, say... Iran:
Clinton: I know it is not popular for an American ever to say anything like this, but I think it's true [applause], and I apologized when President Khatami was elected. I publicly acknowledged that the United States had actively overthrown Mossadegh and I apologized for it, and I hope that we could have some rapprochement with Iran. I think basically the Europeans' initiative to Iran to try to figure out a way to defuse the nuclear crisis is a good one.I think President Bush has done, so far, the right thing by not taking the military option off the table, but not pushing it too much. I didn't like the story that looked like the military option had been elevated above a diplomatic option. But Iran is the most perplexing problem ... we face, for the following reasons: It is the only country in the world with two governments, and the only country in the world that has now had six elections since the first election of President Khatami. [It is] the only one with elections, including the United States, including Israel, including you name it, where the liberals, or the progressives, have won two-thirds to 70 percent of the vote in six elections: two for President; two for the parliament, the Majlis; two for the mayoralities.
In every single election, the guys I identify with got two-thirds to 70% of the vote. There is no other country in the world I can say that about, certainly not my own.
Maybe Bill will get the chance to sit down and have a beer or two with the progressyve government of Iran soon.
Come to think of it, given as how Iran is such a shining beacon of liberal, progressyve values, maybe we can get Alec Baldwin to move there. We live in hope.

Inconvenient truths and facts never blurred the tunnel vision of a dedicated America hater. Their answer is usually an ad hominem attack on the nearest patriot.
It is an interesting phenomenon that these left-wingers have assisted in the killing of millions from Stalin's Russia, Pol Pot's Cambodia, Kim Jong Il's North Korea, Castro/Che Guevarra's Cuba, Giap's Viet Nam, Hussein's rape rooms, Khamenei's Iran, bin laden's Middle East, Arafat's Palestinians, to Americans getting killed by child rapists and multiple Gangbanger/DUI illegals running amuck in our society.
These people never learn!
