Operation Fresh Air Update

Things are shaping up for Operation Fresh Air, but we can still use your help if you want to donate or live in the DC area and can spare some time.

Carrie sends a progress report:

Dixie Bones of Woodbridge gave us a great deal on some fantastic food, so if you're in the area, drop by and let them know you appreciate their support for our wounded soldiers and Marines. You won't be sorry!

The Injured Marine Semper Fi Fund is graciously sponsoring lunch, beverages and desserts.

The nice folks over at Military.com are providing hats.

Lisa in DC over at Soldiers' Angels has put up a donation link you can use to donate money for hypoallergenic sunscreen, rec. equiment (frisbees, balls, etc). If we have enough we'd like to buy a few door prizes. We need to transport, feed, and entertain 100-130 wounded vets and their families, so this is not a small undertaking.

Please help us make this event a success:

On June 2nd from 11 AM to 3 PM Operation Fresh Air will offer wounded vets from Bethesda and Walter Reed and their families a day of fishing, relaxation and fun at Leesylvania State Park in Woodbridge.

This first time effort seeks to provide a great day away from the hospital and a chance to get outside in a safe environment for families and their wounded loved ones.

If you'd like to be involved, here are some ways you can help:

Prior to June 2nd:

Help with fund-raising

Assist Event Coordinator

Shop for supplies

June 2nd 2007:

Help set-up 9 AM to 11 AM at the park (4 volunteers needed)

Bring fishing equipment and assist -11 AM to 1 PM (min. 10 volunteers)

Bring fishing equipment and assist -1 PM to 3 PM (min. 10 volunteers)

Help serve lunch and visit- flexible any time (5 volunteers)

Help with clean-up 3 PM to 4 PM (5 volunteers needed)

To sign up to help with one of the positions above or if you have any additional ideas, please email cynthia.juarez@dcr.virginia.gov or call 703-670-7480.

These are some very special people who have given their utmost on our behalf. This is our chance, in a very small way, to give something back.

Carrie and Cynthia have been working hard to make this a memorable day. Please help out if you can.

Cass,

Great cause. So sorry I can't be there to help. Please tell them that, "A fighter pilot from the last go 'round in Iraq wishes them the best."

Sent money since I can't be there in person.

Onward, Carlos

Thanks so much Carlos :) I will surely do that.

I'm looking forward to this. I put some in, too, for me and for the spousal unit. Thank you for your service - we owe you.

Thank you, Carlos AND Cass...
for service, for sacrifice and for donating.

Cass,

You're very welcome.

Thank you for your writing, which I appreciate very much and for a variety of reasons. In addition to your insight into "national security/foreign affairs/political scene/life as Cassandra sees it," I spent 26 years in the AF, plus another four at the academy, and have a special appreciation for your comments about being a service spouse, especially as you near retirement and moving on to a new life.

Onward, Carlos

And Lisa.

"Hey, I'm just the typist."

What happened to the Eskimos? Did they become more indignant than itinerant? Did you finally figure out that it really wasn't *good-bye* they were saying at the end of the day? [Carrie taught them the proper phrasing on that, btw, while you were hanging the trapeze and disco ball...>;~}]
