Please Support My Marines

Matty O'Blackfive sends:

COL. SIMCOCK: (Chuckles.) I'll tell you what, the one thing that all Marines want to know about -- and that includes me and everyone within Regimental Combat Team 6 -- we want to know that the American public are behind us. We believe that the actions that we're taking over here are very, very important to America. We're fighting a group of people that, if they could, would take away the freedoms that America enjoys.

If anyone -- you know, just sit down, jot us -- throw us an e- mail, write us a letter, let us know that the American public are behind us. Because we watch the news just like everyone else. It's broadcast over here in our chow halls and the weight rooms, and we watch that stuff, and we're a little bit concerned sometimes that America really doesn't know what's going on over here, and we get sometimes concerns that the American public isn't behind us and doesn't see the importance of what's going on. So that's something I think that all Marines, soldiers and sailors would like to hear from back home, that in fact, yes, they think what we're doing over here is important and they are in fact behind us .

The Marines have set up a special email address to send a supportive message to the Marines is: RCT-6lettersfromh@gcemnf-wiraq.usmc.mil . The emails are being scanned by the PAO before being printed and distributed to individual Marines.

And, guess what?, the RCT-6 has a blog.

AFTER A FEW DAYS, WE HAVE ONLY GOTTEN THE MARINES ABOUT 2,000 EMAILS. WE COULD USE SOME HELP IN GETTING THE WORD OUT.

Guys, I have to say I think it's kind of a shame when the blogosphere can't crank out more than this to show these guys we are behind them. How much time does it take from your day to send off an email? And send this to everyone you know? Grim's original post is here.

It is 1:16 and I stayed up to send another letter. You can make time. You may never know what your letter might mean to a Marine who doesn't get mail or is feeling that America has forgotten why they are over there. And some of these young men won't come back at all.

We owe them, I think. It is not much to ask.

"The Lord is my light and my salvation - whom shall I fear? The Lord is the stronghold of my life - of whom shall I be afraid? When evil men advance against me to devour my flesh, when my enemies and my foes attack me, they will stumble and fall. Though an army besiege me, my heart will not fear, though the war break out against me, even then I will be confident.... Then my head will be exalted above the enemies who surround me; at his tabernacle will I sacrifice with shouts of joy..." - Psalm 27:1-8 and ....

I did mine when Kat-Missouri sent the email out two three days ago. I was shocked to see that 1700 was the total last not on Malkin's site.

Yell at Donovan too. Get him to do the Guidons thing. That usually gets some attention. Lord knows when he gets huffy I get scared enough to act.

I am going to be using this as a history lesson for the CLUs later on today. I sent one just now, so five more should be following.

And I cut and pasted the addy from your site.

The salutation I used was 'Dear Marine.' Was that okay?

Posted by: Cricket at June 21, 2007 09:18 AM

That's what I said :p

I said, "Dear Marine:

Dang. I sound like one of my daughter in law's second grade student's writing a "Dear Trooper" letter. I wish I knew your name so I could address this to you personally, but I suppose this will have to suffice."

"Dear Devil Dog" is not bad either.
"Dear Jarhead" not so much....:)

Posted by: Carrie at June 21, 2007 09:42 AM

Devil Dogs is the moniker I chose, right after Ladies, Gentlemen, and Marines in the opening salutation. I 'm right fond of that one since my granddad was in the bunch whose actions resulted in the Huns calling them Devil Dogs.

Ha! I just had another fond memory of my kind old granddad, rest his soul.

Then the suggestion to write was forwarded to all in the circles frequented by Walkin' Boss and myself... Plus we sent a nice little message to a very popular local DJ (he plays both kinds of music...) who has a website dedicated in no small part to our military. I'm still waiting for the DJ's staff to dig through his mail and hit our message, at that time we shall see...

"The Marines have set up a special email address to send a supportive message..."

Well and why not? I'll do it and post about it on my (lowly, rarely visited) blog.

Posted by: camojack at June 22, 2007 03:48 AM

Well if that's directed at me, I do visit, but I still can't comment camo. I have guest privileges at a whole lot of other Blogger sites and if I convert my signin, I risk inadvertantly converting their sites over to the new Google. It just isn't worth my time to have to email every single one of these people and ask them whether they have switched yet just so I can leave a *&^% comment.

Plus I really cringe every time I see that woman.

Posted by: Holly Holy at June 22, 2007 05:41 AM

It wasn't directed at anyone, darlin'...merely a statement of fact.
(Just the facts, ma'am)

Anyway, "that woman" is no longer my most recent post, although the cringing you mention is quite understandable...

I know, but I had to scroll her down to even try to comment last night [shudder].

I just shuddered again thinking about it. What I was going to say last night was that I think you inadvertently found the only thing in the world I am afraid of, camo. Well, I don't really like spiders much either but that's not on a level with this. I can think of a spider without cringing. That was just awful. I can't imagine why someone would do that. Especially on the small of their back. I can't even talk about it any more. Sorry.

I tried Cass. I threw a temper tantrum and everything over at Donvan's. Helped generate some of the 1800 more we got, but not to the goal of 6k. Sorry.

Well, now that I've posted about the email project too, you'll never have to look at her again. I told them about said post when I wrote to them, with a link thereto. As for back pains, I noticed that when I've gotten tattoos on my shoulder blades it was much more sensitive an area that my upper arms, for example.

So, you're an arachnophobe, eh?

And Holly Holy? Methinks thou art a Neil Diamond aficionado.
