The problem wasn't Brady. The problem was the line play. The Patriots' defensive line couldn't get to Eli, and the Patriot's offensive line couldn't keep the Giants away from Brady. No quarterback is going to make plays if he ends up flat on his back literally 1/2 of the time he goes back to pass.

Posted by: RonF at February 4, 2008 10:43 AM

Agreed Ron, while I am glad they gave MVP to Eli (since he really did pull out that win in the last few minutes) I seriously attribute the Giant's win to Strahan and that Giants line. They made Brady throw worse than I've ever seen, and they shut Moroney down. I was both highly suprised and highly impressed with the Giants' defense.

Never mind the play, never mind the issue(dumb as it is) about the model . . .it's the fact that the entire team from the coach on down is entirely classless.

While there may have been a few Patriots who stuck around to shake hands - when the prominent players and coach ran off to the locker room to cry - everyone noticed! Even my 9 year old commented on what poor sports they are.

The Boston Herald had a column regarding Greatness lost. I agree with the headline - maybe some people who know how to coach and play - but as human beings - no greatness there whatsoever!

I wish someone would curse me with Gisele Bundchen ... go ahead, I dare you.

Posted by: Frodo at February 4, 2008 12:23 PM

I've already been giving Jules max crap about that. The entire post (IMO) was just an excuse to Google photos of supermodels :p

Men... heh.

Posted by: Cassandra at February 4, 2008 12:28 PM

Supermodels wearing water Cass... don't downplay that achievement.

Posted by: MikeD at February 4, 2008 12:39 PM

What I'm surprised hasn't been suggested ... the curse of Bridget (Moynahan) ... Tom hasn't won a Superbowl since dumping her.

Posted by: Frodo at February 4, 2008 12:44 PM

*sigh*

Oh Lord. I'm afraid to ask what I missed.

Posted by: Cassandra at February 4, 2008 12:46 PM

That was exactly what I was hoping for from the Giant's. They, like the rest of the league, figured out how to stop Brady and the passing game. But the problem in that was that the Pats would just hand the ball off to Maroney until the defense was biting on the play action. Then back to the air, and usually deep to Moss.
I so wanted the Giant's to go for a touchdown when the officials made everyone come back on the field for the final second of the game -- especially since half the Patriots team couldn't be bothered to come back from the locker room. I thought that would have been perfect karmic justice for Belichick.

Posted by: Sly2017 at February 4, 2008 12:46 PM

I think you people have some issues with this organization called "The Patriots" and this person known as "Belichick".

There was a winner, and a loser. The game is over, along with this "football season".

And I'd like to remind everyone that pitchers and catchers report in two weeks for.....Spring Training.

Baseball.

"The game is over, along with this "football season"."

Nope. You forgot the (semi-)*Pro* bowl.
*sicker*

The Braves have already started. Pitchers and catchers reported Friday for voluntary camp. Maybe Mike Hampton will actually throw a regular season pitch this year.

FOOTBALL SEASON IS OVER
No More Games.
No More Bombs.
No More Walking.
No More Fun.
No More Swimming.

(From Hunter S. Thompson's suicide note; there is some depressing drivel about being old, etc. Then he blew his brains out. So let's not get too down about this football thing being over, OKAY? There is always next year, and hope springs eternal, and blah, blah, blah, yadayadayada, and before we feel sorry for Tom Brady, he's shacked up with Gisele Bundchen, so let's get some perspective here, peoples. Eli Manning was the winning QB, and he's already happily married , I think, plus he's the brother of one of the wittiest jocks on the planet, so it's all good. I think we can all find something positive about today, as none of us present seems to be locked in a Ground Hog Day time warp, and the world is still turning. That's all I've got, so now I'm going out for a burger.)

"The Braves have already started. Pitchers and catchers reported Friday for voluntary camp."
Ahhhhemmm, might I inject a Go Braves!?
"Maybe Mike Hampton will actually throw a regular season pitch this year."
and break a streak! =8-D

Posted by: bthun at February 4, 2008 02:14 PM

I don't mind if you interject a hearty Go Braves! at all, bthun. Hell, I'll join ya -- just don't be waving that torque wrench around. You might cause a breeze in Hampton's general direction (the Flutterby Effect and all) and well, you get the picture.
0>:~}

And Don, the only person I feel for on the Patriots team is........um,......well......heh, no one. Classless, arrogant, the definitive example of bad, make that piss-poor, sportmanship = 2007 New England Patriots. IMHO, that is.

Posted by: Sly2017 at February 4, 2008 04:12 PM

So let's see.... How's my Red Sox do this year. Oh,that's right, WORLD CHAMPIONS. And my Giants? How about that, WOLRD CHAMPIONS. Now don't go asking me about basketball or hockey, 'cause I don't care. But if you want to vote for the winner come November, well then youy should vote like me!

The GREATEST Giants game EVER.

You ever notice that all these women that are cursing atheletes are...., are...., white.

And we all know what a problem white women can be.

Posted by: Pile On at February 4, 2008 06:13 PM

Damn straight, Pile.

Never had any use for pasty faced women, myself.

Posted by: William Kristol at February 4, 2008 06:19 PM

Sometimes Bill I think that is the only thing you say to me. Everytime I talk to you it is "damn straight Pile this and damn straight Pile that".

Keep it fresh dude.

Re: Bundchen and Simpson

I don't know them personally, but back when I played football, Coach always warned us about letting our girlfriends/cheerleaders/groupies drain us of our vital manly essences the night before a game. A drained man plays like a drained man, and a ferocious snarling beast becomes listless and fatigued.

Brady looked listless and fatigued, but I hate the Patriots anyway.

Posted by: a former european at February 4, 2008 06:36 PM

Damn straight.

Pile.

[sob!]
I love you, man...

Posted by: William Kristol at February 4, 2008 06:41 PM

I know exactly what you mean, afe.

You know... I was quite the ferocious, snarling beast until Peg Noonan ripped off my bow tie late one night and drained me of my vital manly essence...

Never been the same since. That gal's an animal!

*Damn* those white women.

"I don't know them personally, but back when I played football, Coach always warned us about letting our girlfriends/cheerleaders/groupies drain us of our vital manly essences the night before a game."

That wasn't your high school coach, it was General Jack D. Ripper (Doctor Strangelove) warning of the "international Communist conspiracy to sap and impurify all of our precious bodily fluids".

Posted by: Frodo at February 4, 2008 06:55 PM

Posted by: camojack at February 4, 2008 08:29 PM

Yeah, Frodo, I know. Nevertheless, that is what coach said. Now, he was ex-military, a jarhead, and some said he had a metal plate in his head from Korea, so he may not have been firing on all cylinders. Good motivator, though.

I spoke too soon vis a vis Curse of Bridget:

http://www.bostonherald.com/track/inside_track/view.bg?articleid=1071308&srvc=home&position=3

"and finally, Bridget Moynahan. No. 12 dumped his honey of over three years and then took up with the beauteous Bundchen. But he may have also dumped his Super Bowl lucky charm in the process. Check the record. Brady’s Ladies’ stats are Moynahan, 2-0 (Super Bowls XXXVIII and XXXIX); Laura Kinsman, 1-0 (Super Bowl XXXVI); Gisele Bundchen, 0-1 (Super Bowl XLII)."
