Site Meter/IE Crash Problem Fixed (I Hope!)

Thanks to DL Sly, hopefully the Site Meter/IE crash problem is fixed.

FWIW, what worked for me was just moving this code snippet:

<!– Site Meter –>
<script type=”text/javascript” src=”http://s36.sitemeter.com/js/counter.js?site=yourIDhere”>
</script>
<noscript>

<a href=”http://s36.sitemeter.com/stats.asp?site=yourIDhere” target=”_top”>

<img src=”http://s36.sitemeter.com/meter.asp?site=yourIDhere” alt=”Site Meter” border=”0″/></a>

</noscript>

<!– Copyright (c)2006 Site Meter –>

...outside of the div tag (I had it inside a div tag, but often people put it in a table, too, and that seems to be what causes the problem in Internet Explorer) and placing it all the way at the bottom of my page, just before the closing body tag. Actually, it was already the last element on the page just before the closing body tag, but the div tags were the problem.

Also, I threw up some news headlines in the sidebar. Don't know if I'll keep them - I've been meaning to do that for some time now since I just don't have as much time as I used to for blogging. I'll keep my eye out for interesting things. Let me know if you like them. I don't like a lot of clutter on a site, but I thought it might be nice.

For tedious but simple steps for blogspot (non gear-head) users, I've been pretty busy this morning. Maybe this will help, too. For the html impaired.

If I don't wash my masses, will you bring me some hope? No big deal, 'cuz we're a bit shy on water to begin with.

Oh. *Hope*. Dang, I thought you said *dope*...

The problem is at the sitemeter server not anything you are doing here.

when counter.js does the procedure call to sitemeter it hangs without a return and there is no timeout function to abort it.

just tried it with ie7 and the page loads but at the bottom I get Done, but with errors on page

Posted by: SlimGuy at August 2, 2008 02:06 PM

Now working here and on other sites.

Looks like they must have finally fixed the error at sitemeter which was causing the problem

Ya better keep yer paws offa my *masses*, Buddy.

I had IE 7 on my machine (I normally use Firefox). I tested my main page (which didn't originally have Sitemeter on it). As expected, it was fine. I went to the sitemeter main page and it crashed, then went to my comments page (which had a sitemeter icon on it) and got the error.

After moving the code, the error no longer appeared. So I assumed that it was fixed, since before moving the code I couldn't load the page in IE 7 and after moving the code, I could.

Just as an aside, I then put the Sitemeter deal back on my main page and was able to load that one too.

The Dark Lord decided that things will work, and they did. What could it do otherwise?

Drop back ten and punt.

You sure that's wise, Bill?

I'm relieved to hear the problem was on your end. :)

Punting is only wise if you're 4th and long.

FYI, Sitemeter says they fixed the backend script, and the correct javascript should work in IE7 now. I've tested, seems to be OK.
