No Facebook for You!!!

Heh:

The Marine Corps on Monday issued an administrative directive saying it was banning the use of Marine network for accessing such sites as Facebook, Twitter and MySpace. The order doesn't affect Marines' private use of such networks on personal computers outside of their jobs.

Cue up the howls of enfuriated outragy-ness. "AIEEEEE!!! THE BIG MEANIES WON'T LET ME FRIEND TOTAL STRANGERS DURING WORKING HOURS!!!!"

If this story didn't exist we would have no recourse but to make it up.

If strictly enforced, that fascistic edict might result in something utilitarian being accomplished during those hours in which utilitarian somethings are supposed to be accomplished.

What unmitigated gall.

Okay, so it's really *mitigated* gall, but that's beneath the point.

Of course, these rules only pertain to the military. If it was to be enforced for the civilian government workers, the poor souls would have little or no reason to actually show up.

*snort*

I can't get over the gnashing of teeth over an employer who has the *nerve* to ask you to devote your full attention to your job during working hours whilst you're using a gubment computer.

The *nerve* of some people. Bloody fascists.

Can we imagine the bureaucrats in our projected NHS minimizing their work screen to check and comment on facebook? One possible scenario is as follows;

nurse; Dr. the IV drip is almost finished. What shall we do?

doctor; contact NHS on the red computer for instructions, STAT.

crickets; chirp, chirp chirp...

NHS Central Command Drone; Sir, our response time has been confirmed by audit central as 65% within established parameters of an equivical answer within the allotted envelope of 15 minutes.

NHS Czar; Fantastic. Let me post that on my Facebook site using the red computer as this is important, tweet the President, Skype the NYT, and RSS Feed the Congressional mailing list. I'm feeling the love.

Drone; Very Good Sir;

Nurse;....Doctor! CODE BLUE..Defib or plan B?

Dr.; Give him the red pill...next...!

patient; is that WHITE LIGHT I am reaching for energy efficient?? OOOOH the lights, the lights!

Monitor; BEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEP

I work for a local DA's office. Many websites, especially social networking websites, are banned for us at work.
