Why I Don't Read Paul Krugman:

"International travel by world leaders is mainly about making symbolic gestures. Nobody expects President Obama to come back from China with major new agreements, on economic policy or anything else."

Hmmm. Let's see...

Double digit unemployment.

Root causes of last year's banking crisis still not addressed and still no plan to address them.

Major decision about how to "fully resource" a "war of necessity" in which "the safety of people around the world is at stake" before the 12-18 month window of opportunity that started in June expires.

Evil, Gaia-raping corporate hegemonists stomping all over the planet with their giant, carbon footprints.

Yep. This is the moment... the moment to burn thousands of gallons of jet fuel making symbolic gestures that even his supporters don't expect to bear fruit.

They weren't kidding about that whole "Judgment to Lead" thing, were they?

Why I Don't Read Paul Krugman

Nobody *needs* an excuse to not read Paul Krugman.

I guess on the plus side, he didn't fully prostrate himself before the "Divine" Emperor. That's something (not much, but...)

You would think that among the hundreds of zillions of employees in the State Department, there would be someone who could teach the President of the United States how to do a Japanese greeting bow properly.

Assuming, of course, that said President was actually interested in learning.

...and at least the lightning didn't put in an appearance while he was maintaining that posture.

Mr. and Mrs. Emperor were saying to themselves "What an idiot! If only he had been President during WWII we would be speaking Japanese in San Francisco today."

By the way, it is possible he wasn't bowing to the Emp. He was showing America his A**!

He learned everything he needed to know while watching 'Karate Kid' and 'Karate Kid II' on the flight.

You can lead a horse to water but you can't make him think.

OK--so *that's* how Obama bows. So what was that gesture when he met the Saudi king? He bent his knee, with one foot behind him, and he bowed his head. Sure looks like a curtsey to me.

My father fought in the Phillipeans in WWII. Is this the stupidest thing an American President could do or has done? I guess we will have to wait and see. He embarrassed our Country and our Allie's Country. There is a Japanese Newspaper refusing to publish the photo out of embarrassment.
