Obama, By the Numbers

Because, you know, it really is all about him:

Obama's revealing Afghanistan war speech: 4,582 words and not one of them was 'victory'

...One other interesting war speech stat: President Obama mentioned himself 44 times.

Meanwhile, lest we forget who's really fighting this war.

This, also.

And, according to Neo-neocon, he never used the word "enemy" either.

That's because he wasn't talking about the American people, Sloan.

Boy, did he ever tank his first attempt at acting like the Commander-in-Chief. Obama's lucky that the American armed forces serve the nation rather than it's leader, because right now a starving dog wouldn't follow him into harm's way even if Obama was wearing a pork chop necklace.

Thanks for the laugh, spd :)

FWIW, I said something very similar to Ed Pilkington: it's not terribly effective to stand up and say, "Follow me!" while broadcasting your own reluctance to go there.

Stunning, amazing photos. Thanks.

"4,582 words and not one of them was 'victory'."

Color me unsurprised. Words like victory are "double plus bad"...

Posted by: camojack at December 3, 2009 01:19 AM

There is no "bad" in NewSpeak, camo -- the operative adjective is "ungood"...

President Obama mentioned himself 44 times.

It was a short speech, then?

Posted by: BillT at December 3, 2009 02:31 AM

Heh. TNOYF's calling his plan "The Verge"...

I know there is an equation for this (methinks Cassie would have it; the Tome is silent on statistics except when referring to actuaries in hushed tones, italic and symbols)...about 1% of the words used in the speech were about him, so if you divide it up between 'victory/ending the war, Afghanistan, and himself, he took up 1/3 of the space.

Thief.

I know there is an equation for this...

O = zero...

1.BHO has no idea what victory on a battlefield looks like. He may understand political victory- as in " we won, deal with it, but spilling blood etc is different.

2. Note that the cadets whose lives are literally in his hands for 3 more years were resectful yet unimpressed. Kids learn quickly and as was pointed out in Der Speigel,it was a phony uninspired speech.

3. We will do our duty to our country and the people. He will get the respect due the CiC, but the affection we felt for GWB is not there because BHO has not earned it.

4. As was said, even with a pork chop necklace, this prez would have a hard time getting people to fall in on his hesitant and reluctant leadership.

He makes it tough to want to stay in, but we have a country to defend and protect. No seat warmer will stop us in that effort!!!

Semper Fidelus to all the Marines, Marine Spouses and Marine Brats/Anklebiters. And 'specially to our hostess with the mostess, Ms. Cassandra.

Thanx Cass and hang tough!!!

The man is an absolute genius. He can predict when the war will be over - or at least, over enough to let our troops leave.

It remids me of the situation so often found in the software industry: the project is announced, the specifications delivered to the programmers, then the managers come in a say "what's your estimate of having this completed in 8 months?"

The developers, on the other hand, know it's going to take 18 months.

And such a brilliant commander: his battle plans, unlike most others, don't become obsolete right after the fighting starts.

Sorry about the earlier typos. I was doing it on an iPhone, and was in a rush.

I am still not impressed with him or his staff. Not any of them. I just hope the next 3 years are survivable.

My bad, er...ungood. Maybe it's New NewSpeak?

ProgressiveSpeak, maybe?

Possibly...

If only Obama can do more than delivering speeches and appearing on talk shows! That would be like expecting the impossible to happen!
