Friday Nite Dedication

For Pile. And Don. And all my dearest, oldest friends.

When the road gets dark
And you can no longer see
Just let my love throw a spark
And have a little faith in me
And when the tears you cry
Are all you can believe
Just give these loving arms a try
And have a little faith in me

This song didn't make a big impression on me the first 35 times I heard it. But it snuck up on me.

...and one to bring y'all up:

Now I'm in my car
Ooh, I got the radio on
Now I'm yellin' at the kids in the back
Cuz they're banging like Charlie Watts

You think you've come so far
In this one horse town
Then she's laughing that crazy laugh
Cuz you haven't left the parkin' lot

Time is short and here's the damn thing about it
You're gonna die, gonna die for sure
And you can learn to LIVE with love or without it
But there ain't no cure

It's just a slow turning
From the inside out
A slow turning
But you come about...

Thanks for being there, all these years.

Yeah, sometimes on the morning drive to work, I slip in the John Hiatt CD and fool around with different songs until "Slow Turning" starts just as I am arriving. Sometimes it gets me happy enough to get out of the car and go into work. :)

I think that guy is singing my life in that song; just a little (like about a thousand other goofs out there!).
I was actually listening to this on the drive home this afternoon and had a fantasy about my son and I playing this as a duet, me on rhythm guitar, him on the electric lead.
We all have our little dreams. He can actually play electric guitar, though. :)

Pile On, if you're reading this, thanks for getting me to start listening to John Hiatt.

And as for the rest of you, thanks for not smoking.

Yeah, that's one of my "top ten feel good" songs now.

Remember that thread? I tried to go back last night and look at it but most of the comments have been eaten by Typepad. I'll be it went over some limit.

What a shame. I'll never forget how that post was still getting daily comments 4 years after I posted it! Unbelievable.

There was a stretch of time last year, probably about five months where I listened to Hiatt every morning on my way to work. Every few weeks I would try a different cd and end up just popping it back out and putting Hiatt in. Nothing else seemed to work.

"Thanks for being there, all these years."

Au contraire, mon cher. Merci à vous...
