Incandescently Idiotic

The Editorial Staff are underjoyed to hear that fully integrating women into all military specialties won't have a deleterious effect on readiness:

"It is time we take on the fight against sexual assault and sexual harassment as our primary mission," Gen. Odierno wrote.

We hope that all you folks who kept nattering on about Congressional pandering and political correctness superceding sound military policy understand just how foolish you're looking now.

If only we could go back to the good old days when leaders understood the military's real purpose.

Gnostic urges, (anti- nature, purpose, tradition, meanings, forms), are taken up by ordinary well-meaning people under the rubric of 'equal' and, especially, 'fair'. Those having the urges have it as a certainty that thesis, beating one's fair head against antithesis, an unfair wall, will lead to Hegelian synthesis - a better, fairer world. Symptomatic of this disorder is never seeing a destination – only a horizon.

On the plus side, this new primary mission will allow us to achieve significant savings on future weapon systems. In fact, all we'll really need is lawyers...

Hi Cass,
We've been driving dowen this road quite awhile. Harry Truman was right do desegregate the military, but he did it poorly which led to more problems than it should have. I'd say we have had similar problems/unintended consequences with recruiting women into the force.
the nimrods that place any *mission* above deterrence (preventing war) and fighting wars to win are mind shatteringly foolish.

Hi Grim,
We were already overlawyered when I left active duty in '90, and seriously so by 2008 reserve retirement.

Best Regards,

This is the first step in "Gender norming" physical performance standards for combat units and, given the people in charge, was entirely predictable. In fact it was predicted on these "pages" some time ago by yours truly and bunches of others.

"...the nimrods that place any *mission* above deterrence (preventing war) and fighting wars to win are mind shatteringly foolish..."

Well, these are the people who put a sailor (Mullen) in charge of not one, but two, ground wars; took a unit specifically trained for Afghanistan and sent it to Iraq only to realize that someone still needed to be sent to the Stan so they pulled another unit off short rotation (from an Iraqi tour) and threw them in the mix w/o the requisite tour-specific training; set the ROE as such so that firing upon Talibani scum setting up roadside bombs in the middle of the night was forbidden because it might wake the *neighbors*....
Need more be said?
