Surrendering Without a Fight

Via Grim:

There's no reason to lose fights like this except that our side has unilaterally disarmed. US soldiers, all of whom are trained with arms, and many of whom own private firearms and are licensed to carry them off post, found themselves prey for Nidal Hassan because regulations disarmed almost every soldier on base. British soldiers are having their heads hacked off with meat cleavers, because they -- also like people coming off of many US military bases, especially those run by the Air Force -- can't even carry a combat knife, or even a lengthy pocket knife.

First we're told that guns cause violence: take away our lawful right to bear arms and somehow, by some unexplained miracle, our enemies will simply lose heart and stop attacking us. If only the British Army had responded to "We'll never stop fighting you" with, "We'll never stop fighting back". Sadly, "common sense" prevailed.

They should have flooded the streets with uniforms. We're guessing there would have been no shortage of willing volunteers.

There's this bizarre idea that when crazy or evil people attack us, the fault lies in us for provoking them.

Doesn't it remind you of the woman who thought agreeing to go on a date with her jerk of a boss was the only way to get him to quit asking her?

Rewarding an aggressor seems perfectly reasonable to me. I mean, what could possibly go wrong?

What is perhaps the most troublesome in that incident is the number of people standing around on the street corners while this maggot monologues into the video camera! One woman even attempts to engage them while they are standing over the dead soldier's body in, I can only guess, peaceful dialogue. Where is the #@$^& outrage? Two people vs. at least 20 or more that I can quick count. Flooding the street with uniforms should not be necessary. The sheep watching this incidious act had all the means necessary to stop this and put these dogs down for good. That they did nothing, I hope haunts them the rest of their remaining days.

But, but, but 20 on 2 wouldn't have been *fair*!

Exactly!

They should have flooded the streets with uniforms.

That's a good idea. That neighborhood would benefit from exactly this sort of display.

You know, somehow I knew before clicking on that link that bagpipes would be involved :p

Scotland the Brave, indeed.

Found this at Bookworm's Room but it's via James Taranto:
"A reader sent this to us as an 'Out on a Limb' submission. Christina Lamb, whose Twitter bio describes her as an 'author, foreign correspondent, long time follower of Afghanistan and Pakistan,' had the same idea, only without irony. She tweeted yesterday (quoting verbatim): 'are we not jumping to conclusions calling beheading an islamist terrorist attack & not violent madmen using name of islam?'"

I swear we won't have to worry about cemetary space to bury some of these people for they are such twisted individuals that we'll only have to screw them into the ground once rigor sets in.

*shakes head in utter disgust....heading off to
the fridge for a beer*
Where's my Fukitol.....

Hi Neville,
assume you are behind some of the other recent comments by the putatively (in)famous. You get an 'attaboy' for using this opportunity to mock appeasers. Well.Done.Sir!

Hi Cass,
Not sure I support Grim's over the top criticism of 'flood the street w/ uniforms,' but I agree w/ at least part of his underlying point; that the situation didn't need a platoon of police &/or soldiers.

ONE armed police*woman* put an instant stop to this deplorable Shakespeare like tragedy.
I think the military, in addition to police, should carry a sidearm, especially when traveling alone, though I know this is an emotional issue in Britain.
. . . and yes, it was a 'very poor show' that none of the male (apparently there were no men present) bystanders even tried to grab a weapon of opportunity (bat, shovel, etc against a large knife) to intervene sooner.

Best Regards,

I think I hold the opposite position to the one you are criticizing in my name. I'm sure you'll think my actual position is over the top as well, but at least it's over the top in the right direction.

It is no coincidence that the govt has spent the last 50 years training people to be helpless and dependent. After all, resourceful and self-reliant folks have no need for a nanny state. After all this learned helplessness, is it any wonder that people stand around and do nothing?

And that's the REAL evil of the nanny state, afe. You hit it out of the park with that comment. These people have been told time after time that they cannot, and indeed must NEVER defend themselves (much less anyone else), but should instead wait for the State to come to the rescue. So instead of doing ANYTHING, they stand there and talk with murderers who quite literally have blood on their hands.

Now imagine if those nutjobs decided to start hacking away at the crowd. How many could they have cut down before the rest escaped? And in those people's minds, escape was the ONLY option. They never would have thought "you know, we can TAKE those bastards." It's like the will to fight has just been leached out of them. Which, of course, it has.
