Several years ago I was forwarded a link to the Library of Congress digital site. Their maps section is one that you can get lost in for several hours. I know I certainly have many times. My favorite is the panoramic maps collection where you find maps from the contiguous United States, mostly hand drawn, including cities like LA as it appeared in 1871, Cheyenne, WY from a bird's eye view in 1882 or Washington, DC in 1852 before *fog* covered the bottom.
