Summer Songs Thread

So, this song has been playing in my head on and off all summer:

I stood out there in the covering
In the baskings of a holy night
Oh I was lucid and conscious
And hovering like a firefly

My mind stretched out on the canopy
It put its arms out slow
I heard the whispers of silence
Floating down from the radio

So come on, come on, I'm ready now
I got that feeling honey - like I'm ready to roll

Not sure what makes someone associate a song with summer. Sometimes it's a memory. Other times, it's the way the sound captures the feeling of sun and wind on your face at the beach, or the light filtering through the trees, or the scent of honeysuckle on a soft Southern night.

Or just that feeling when, unexpectedly, the weight of all those summers past falls away and you feel like a child again, riding your bike so fast that the world slips by in a blur.

What songs make you think of summer?

What songs make you think of summer?

"Highway to Hell"

"Disco Inferno"

And of course, this one by the Sons of the Pioneers.

But we're a bit further South than you. :)

Ther are so many songs that remind me of summer I don't know where to begin. So instead of thinking, let's just rock n' roll with the Ramones!

Chewin' at a rythym on my bubble gum
The sun is out and I want some
Its not hard, not far to reach,
we can hitch a ride to Rockaway Beach

Yeah, but I'm no stranger to deep South summers. I've lived in Pensacola, Mississippi, and both Carolinas. SC and Mississippi are the most like Georgia.

I could go on forever on this one :)

1. Ancient history: too many songs by America:

You Can Do Magic
Ventura Highway (not linked - everyone knows this one)
Don't Cross the River

2. High school and driving down to the beach:

Green Grass and High Tides - Outlaws

Take the Highway - Marshall Tucker

3. Summer in the high desert:

My Maria - Brooks & Dunn

All the Pretty Girls Go to the City - Spoon

Somehow I knew you'd list that one :)

"Moonlight Feels Right" takes me to Norfolk/VA Beach, Mike.

Me too Cass. Very strange time in my life.

And nobody has mentioned "Summer Breeze"?
Silly peoples.

Not to mention most anything by the Eagles, but "One Of These Nights" will put me right back in the desert driving (ok, flying under the radar) under a canopy of stars and moonlight, windows down, stereo cranked....

Summer Breeze will always remind me of Newport, RI.

I had a bunch of Eagles songs too, but it was just too hard to choose :)
